wonders of the world

while booking our excursions, we were warned a few times how far away Chitzen Itza is, but we figured we are here and its one of the 7 wonders of the new world, we should do it.
so today was that day, woke up extra early, and after 3 bus transfers, and a four hour drive we arrived in the blazing heat ate spectacular sight!
Chitzen Itza is very impressive, partly because how huge and open it is, and because of how well it was constructed. it had two periods of flourishing, 450ad and 950ad, what you see on the outside is from the later, the original temple is inside, they rebuilt over the top of it.
to say it was hot was an understatement! my forehead is still on fire from the heat! after what the mexicans call vitamin c (cerveza) we were off to our next stop, the city of Vallidad. a beautiful and colorful city that is booming and used to be an old mayan temple city too. when the spainardscame and conquered their town they town down the temple and buildings of the city, but some of the bases and minimal structures still exist. here we had a fantastic buffet and than a walking tour of their town, than we toured an amazingly beatiful sink hole (cenotes)- i think before i called them caves, but they are sink holes with fresh watercreated bythe soft limestone, it was cool we could see some fossils in the limestone from when it was under water as the coral reef.
next came that dreaded ride back to our hotel, which turned out even worse when we were the kast ones left on the bus to find out that non english speaking driver (the guide had already gotten off) forgot about our hotel and we had to back track almist an hour to drop us off! I wanted nothing motpre than to get off that bus, i was considering walking or a taxi!
so now the heat exhaustion has hit us and we are off to bed again!
missing my family, friends, and especially my pets, please give my kitties some cuddling Jess, and Oneta give Burton a kiss from me!
